Custom machined plastic bushings
Plastic sleeves made to your specified bore, outside diameter and length.
CDS machines custom bushings from drawings, specifications or existing parts. Request a new batch, a replacement sleeve or a repeat order, with the material and features your part requires.
For the complete mounted support, see Plastic Bearing Blocks.
Dimensions for the bushing to be machined
A bushing drawing describes the sleeve itself: its inside and outside diameters, length and end details. Required tolerances and finish belong with those dimensions.
- Bore is the inside diameter of the sleeve.
- Outside diameter defines its outer cylindrical surface.
- Length runs between the end faces.
End view and axial section of a plain sleeve. Flanges, grooves, steps and other required features belong on the customer drawing. No installed fit is shown.
Inside and outside diameters
The bore and outside surface are separate machined features. Include any stepped diameters, recesses or concentricity requirements shown on the drawing.
Length and ends
Overall length, flange or shoulder thickness, chamfers and end-face details complete the sleeve profile. A photo can identify the general shape but does not replace these dimensions.
Grooves and additional features
Show the location and dimensions of any grooves, holes or other features. CDS reviews the specified geometry and material to confirm the machining scope.
Dimensions before installation
Clearly identify the dimensions required for the supplied bushing. If your drawing also lists installed dimensions, distinguish them from the dimensions CDS is to machine and inspect.
Replacing a sleeve without a current drawing
An existing bushing can begin a replacement inquiry. Send any old print, part reference or known dimensions along with photos of the sleeve.
Documenting the existing part
CDS can review a physical bushing for reverse engineering and replacement machining. The bore, outer profile, shoulders and grooves help identify what needs to be reproduced.
Wear, cracks or distortion may have changed the sample. Mark those areas and identify any original dimensions or material information you have; unknown requirements need clarification before machining.
Repeat work and revised parts
For a previous CDS part, provide the part number or order reference. If a new revision changes the sleeve, send that drawing and identify the quantity required for each version.
Preserve the full material callout
The specified resin, exact grade and any filler or brand requirement form part of the manufacturing specification. Identify approved substitutions explicitly.
If a legacy drawing says “Teflon,” send the complete note and specification. PTFE machining information explains the material naming; a required branded or filled grade still needs confirmation for the order.
Documented material requirements
Tell CDS which material records or inspection documents the order requires. If your specification calls for a detectable formulation, include that exact requirement; the Detectable Plastics page explains the documentation to bring to the inquiry.
Request a quote for your bushing
Start with the sleeve you need manufactured. CDS will confirm machining feasibility, material availability and the quoted scope.
Sleeve specification
Drawing and revision, or details of an available sample; bore, outside diameter, length, flanges, shoulders and grooves; tolerances and finish for the supplied part.
Material and documents
Complete material callout, permitted substitutions and required material or inspection documentation. Mark unknown information on an existing part.
Quantity and timing
Quantity by size or revision, repeat requirement, requested timing and any previous CDS part or order reference.
