Custom PTFE valve seats

Machined to your seat drawing, specification or existing-part records.

CDS CNC-machines PTFE valve seats for new parts, replacements and repeat orders, from a single emergency replacement through production quantities. Your part requirements establish the contour, dimensions, material and finish to be machined.

Seat contours, grooves and mounting features

A valve seat has a shaped surface that meets the valve's moving closure. CDS machines the seat itself, using the contour, bore, outside profile and other features specified for your part.

Machined seat options

Diameter range
0.5–24 inches
Sealing angles
45°, 60°, 90°
or custom profiles
Features
O-ring grooves, counterbores and back angles
Mounting
Press-fit, threaded or bonded

CDS confirms the combination of features, dimensions and required tolerances for each quotation. Mounting dimensions and construction come from your part specification.

Bore, seating contour and groove detail
  1. Bore is the seat opening defined by the inside diameter.
  2. Seating contour is machined to the specified angle or profile.
  3. Groove has its own location and dimensions when required.

End view and separate axial section of an example seat. The drawing specifies the actual geometry, dimensions and finish; no valve assembly or operating performance is shown.

The drawing defines the inside and outside diameters, thickness and sealing profile. Give grooves, recesses, angles and threads their own dimensions, with required tolerances and surface callouts.

Specified surface finish

CDS's standard surface finish for valve seats is 63 Ra, with better available. Confirm the required finish and measurement convention for the specified surface.

A machining finish is not a shutoff or leak-performance rating for an assembled valve.

Replacement seats from existing parts

A physical seat can start a replacement request when the original drawing is missing. A valve model, seat part number, old print or unworn spare helps identify the component.

Document the remaining features

Reverse engineering records an existing seat's geometry for manufacture. Mark worn contact edges, deformed sections and damaged mounting features so they can be distinguished from reliable dimensions.

A used seat may no longer show its original contour or thickness. Missing dimensions and unknown material requirements need clarification before the replacement is machined.

Revised seats and repeat quantities

For a customer-specified revision, provide the updated drawing. For repeat work, identify the current part number and revision, previous CDS order and quantity required.

Your specified PTFE compound

CDS offers these four PTFE compound families for valve seats. Exact grades and availability require confirmation for your part.

  • Virgin PTFE
  • Glass-filled PTFE
  • Carbon-filled PTFE
  • Bronze-filled PTFE

Give the complete material callout, including a required brand, filler and percentage when specified. For a replacement, provide the existing grade record if available.

Grade identity and required records

Virgin and filled PTFE are separate material requirements. A family name or the appearance of a used seat does not identify an exact compound.

Include any material, food-contact, traceability or inspection documentation required with the seat. CDS confirms the available documentation for the specified material and order.

Start with a CAD/PDF technical drawing, 2D or 3D information, written specification, dimensioned sketch or details of an available seat.

  1. Seat definition

Valve and seat reference, drawing revision, specified contour, dimensions, grooves and mounting features. Include tolerances, surface finish and reliable dimensions for a worn sample.

  2. Material and records

Exact PTFE compound, required brand or filler, permitted substitutions and requested material or inspection documents. Identify any unknown requirements.

  3. Order details

Quantity now, repeat quantities, requested timing and previous CDS order reference. Timing and the specific machining scope are confirmed for the quotation.
