Container timing-wheel machining inquiries
For the pocketed component in a container handoff.
Send CDS the drawing, specification or existing wheel for a custom-part machining review. Identify the component and its required dimensions; the specific machining and supply scope will be confirmed for your request.
Machine names vary. For a wheel that engages a synchronous belt, see Timing Gears & Pulleys.
Identify the wheel and its drawing references
This inquiry concerns a container wheel used at a pitch transition between stations. The machine part number and drawing distinguish that component from other pocketed wheels.
Pocket pattern
Use the specified pocket count, shape and locations to identify the required wheel. The container name or photograph alone does not define the part geometry.
Center and registration features
Show the bore, hub, keyway, mounting pattern and any specified angular relationship or timing mark on the part drawing.
Component identity
Equipment make, model, station and part references help distinguish the requested component. Identify each wheel or revision separately.
- Pocket pattern is part of the customer-specified wheel geometry.
- Center features include the defined bore and hub.
- Reference feature relates to the pocket pattern as shown on the part drawing.
Conceptual wheel face identifying component features. It does not specify a pitch-changing mechanism, transfer timing or a standard CDS construction.
For a wheel carrying containers around a rotary station, see custom plastic star wheels. CDS confirms the identified part's machining scope from the information supplied.
Using an existing wheel as a reference
An old drawing, part number, revision or unworn spare helps document a replacement. Existing records are especially useful where the pockets or center features have been altered.
Separate intact features from damage
Reverse engineering documents existing part geometry. Identify worn pockets, damaged bores and known dimensions when requesting this work.
A sample cannot establish every missing dimension or unknown material requirement. These details need clarification before a replacement can be manufactured.
Customer-specified changes
Provide the revised component drawing for a format change. A repeat request should identify the current revision and previous CDS order reference if available.
Dimensions and material for the machined part
The wheel specification establishes the outside profile, thickness and center features. Required tolerances and dimensional relationships belong with the drawing.
- Wheel thickness is measured between the specified faces.
- Hub steps have separate diameters and axial dimensions.
- Bore passes through the wheel center.
Conceptual axial section of a wheel body. Your component drawing establishes the actual profile, face steps, bore and required tolerances.
Face steps, hub and bore
Show axial dimensions, recesses, mounting holes and other features that may not be clear in a face view. Distinguish the wheel body from separate clamps, inserts or hardware.
Exact material requirement
Provide the specified plastic and grade, including any controlled brand, filler or permitted substitution. Existing material records help identify a replacement requirement.
CDS confirms material availability, machining scope and any requested documentation for the part.
Request a timing-wheel machining quote
Send the drawing, specification, dimensioned sketch or details of an available sample. Include the machine and part references used to identify the wheel.
Wheel definition
Part number and revision; pocket pattern, outside profile and thickness; bore, hub, locating features and required dimensional relationships; tolerances and finish.
Material and records
Exact material grade, required brand or filler, permitted substitutions and required documents. Identify reliable references and worn or unknown features in a sample.
Order details
Quantity by component, new or replacement request, repeat needs, requested timing and previous CDS order reference. Identify any separate hardware to be quoted.
