Plastic sealing-cap machining inquiries

For a customer-defined, nonstandard or obsolete closure component.

Send the closure drawing, specification or existing-part records for machining review. CDS must confirm acceptance of the specific fluid- or pressure-retaining component and its manufacturing scope.

Here, a sealing cap is intended to retain fluid or pressure. For dust exclusion, masking or surface protection, see protective caps.

The component drawing identifies the closure profile and its required features.

The closure component to be machined

The part drawing defines the cap body, dimensions and any connection or seal features. Identify the individual component and distinguish separately requested seals or hardware.

Actual part geometry

A part name does not establish its shape or construction. Supply the specified outside profile, internal recesses, wall sections and end faces.

Connection and surface callouts

Give any thread, groove, seat or mounting feature its exact dimensions and requirements. Required tolerances and finishes need confirmation for the quoted component.

Outside profile, internal recess and end face
  1. Outside profile defines the component envelope.
  2. Internal recess has specified diameters, depths and any additional features.
  3. End face is part of the dimensioned closure body.

Conceptual section of a plain component, solely to identify drawing features. It establishes no default connection, seal construction or CDS pressure-retaining capability.

Component drawing

The current revision establishes the features and dimensions to be manufactured.

Specified material

The exact plastic grade and any controlled brand or filler are customer requirements.

Supply scope

Identify the machined body and any separate items. No default seal, thread or assembly is implied.

Existing closures and replacement records

An old print, part number or available closure can start a machining inquiry. Identify the exact component and the required revision.

Documenting remaining features

Reverse engineering documents existing part geometry for manufacture. Mark damaged threads, worn faces, distorted sections or repairs that may no longer show original dimensions.

Known dimensions, an unworn spare and material records help clarify the replacement. Missing features and unknown requirements need resolution before machining.

Customer-specified changes

Provide an updated drawing for a revised closure. For repeat quantities, identify the current part number and any previous CDS order.

Exact grade and required documentation

Provide the specified plastic grade, controlled brand or filler and permitted substitutions. List required material, inspection or other documentation for confirmation.

Machining acceptance does not establish a finished closure's pressure or leak rating. Required ratings, standards or tests must be identified; their fulfillment is not assumed in a machining quotation.

Request machining review for your closure

Send the drawing, specification, dimensioned sketch or details of an available sample. Identify its intended retaining duty so CDS can confirm whether the component is within scope.

Part definition

Component identity, drawing revision, specified profile, connection and seal features. Include dimensions, tolerances, finish and reliable sample references.

Material and requirements

Exact grade and required documents, standards or tests. Identify any separate seal or hardware and any unresolved requirements.

Order details

Quantity, replacement or new-part request, repeat needs, requested timing and previous CDS order reference. Specific manufacturing and supply scope need confirmation.
