Plastic bumpers, stops and impact pads

Custom rigid stops and contact pads made to your part requirements.

CDS's material-handling component offer includes product stops and bumpers. Send the drawing, specification or sample records for your rigid plastic stop, pad or block to confirm its material and machining scope.

This offer concerns the individual machined component. Rated safety bumpers and energy-absorbing dampers are a separate product class.

The stop drawing defines the contact face, thickness and attachment features.

Contact face, body thickness and mounting holes

A rigid stop or pad has a contact face and an attachment side. Its drawing specifies the finished shape and the features to be machined.

Face profile, mounting holes and thickness
  1. Face has a specified outline and finish.
  2. Holes follow the locations and sizes on the drawing.
  3. Thickness is the required finished dimension of the pad.

Face and edge views of an illustrative rigid pad. Hardware, backing, moving equipment and impact behavior are not shown. The actual part follows the customer specification.

Face and outside profile

Provide the face shape, outside dimensions, edge radii and any specified surface finish. A shaped face needs its profile and reference dimensions.

Thickness and recesses

Show the required finished thickness, steps, pockets or recesses. These dimensions come from the part specification, including where a used face no longer retains its original height.

Attachment features

Locate holes, slots, counterbores and threads on the drawing. Identify separately requested fasteners, inserts or backing pieces so their supply can be confirmed.

Replacing an existing stop or pad

An unavailable stop can be submitted with an old drawing, equipment part record or physical sample. Identify the exact component and required revision.

A worn face may have lost its dimensions

Flattening, chipped edges, repaired surfaces and elongated holes may no longer represent the required geometry. Mark those areas and provide known dimensions or an unworn spare when available.

Reverse engineering documents the existing part for manufacture. Missing dimensions and unknown material requirements need clarification before machining.

Customer-specified changes

For a different thickness, face profile or hole pattern, provide the updated drawing. Repeat requests should identify the current part number, revision and previous CDS order.

Your specified plastic and grade

Provide the full material callout and any required brand, filler or permitted substitution. CDS confirms availability and machining scope for the specified stop or pad.

For a replacement, use the existing material record where available. Color or appearance alone cannot establish the grade. When your drawing calls for UHMW, see UHMW machining for material information.

Required documents and acceptance criteria

Identify material records, inspection documents or special acceptance requirements with the part specification. Any testing or additional supply needs explicit confirmation.

The machining offer does not establish impact capacity, controlled energy absorption or a safety-device rating for the finished component.

Request a stop or pad machining quote

Start with a drawing, specification, dimensioned sketch or details of an available sample. Identify the individual part and any customer-specified changes.

Part definition

Part number and revision, face profile, thickness, holes and mounting features. Include specified dimensions, tolerances, finish and reliable sample references.

Material and supply

Exact grade, required brand or filler, permitted substitutions and requested documents. Identify separate hardware or backing pieces and unresolved requirements.

Order details

Quantity now, repeat needs, requested timing and previous CDS order reference. Machining scope, material availability and timing are confirmed for the quotation.
