Cavities, seats and mounting features
A housing is a body that carries or protects a separate component. Its drawing defines the housing itself, including the internal features and outside profile to be machined.
- Cavity has a specified profile, depth and location.
- Wall forms part of the dimensioned housing body.
- Mounting holes follow the positions and sizes on the drawing.

- Bores, pockets and cavities
- Specify their diameters or profiles, depths, radii and locations. Identify required fits, tolerances and reference surfaces on the drawing.
- Mounting and connection details
- Hole patterns, threads, mating faces and other mounting features need their own dimensions. Distinguish machined holes from separately requested inserts or hardware.
- Openings and separate pieces
- Windows, slots, cable or tube openings, cover features and internal details form part of the component definition. Give separate covers or inserts their own part records.

Reproducing an existing housing
An unavailable housing can be submitted with its older print, equipment part record or physical sample. Identify the housing body and the required revision.
Remaining features and reliable dimensions
Reverse engineering documents existing-part geometry for manufacture. Worn seats, cracks, distorted faces and repaired mounting holes may no longer retain their original dimensions.
Mark intact reference features and provide known dimensions, an unworn spare or older drawing where available. Missing dimensions and unknown material requirements need clarification before machining.
Customer-specified changes
For a revised pocket, opening or mounting pattern, provide an updated drawing. For repeat work, identify the current part number, drawing revision and previous CDS order.
Your specified plastic and grade
Provide the complete material callout, including a required brand, filler or permitted substitution. CDS confirms availability and machining scope for the specified housing geometry.
For a replacement, use the existing material record when available. Appearance alone does not identify the exact grade, and the material of a separate insert does not establish the housing body's material.
Documentation and acceptance requirements
List required material, inspection or other documents for confirmation. Any ingress, flame, electrical, pressure or cleanliness requirement must be identified explicitly; it is not established by machining the housing.

Part number and revision, outside profile, seats, cavities, openings and mounting features. Include specified dimensions, tolerances, finish and reliable sample references.

Exact plastic grade, required brand or filler, permitted substitutions and requested material or inspection documents. Identify separate covers, inserts or hardware.
Order details
Quantity now, repeat needs, requested timing and previous CDS order reference. Manufacturing and supply scope, availability and timing are confirmed for the quotation.
